XBOX 360 Review: Wanted - Weapons of Fate

Wanted Weapons of Fate Banner

Like most other movie based games, Wanted: Weapons of Fate was developed to cash in on the graphic novel based movies which took in over $341 million at the box office.

Wanted is about a young man (Wesley Gibson) who finds out his estranged father was an assassin after being told he was murdered. The son is recruited into his father’s old assassin fraternity and trained by a man named Sloan to follow in his dad’s footsteps and avenge his death.

Wes is taught how to develop lightning-quick reflexes, phenomenal agility and to curve bullets. He discovers this team lives by an ancient, unbreakable code to carry out the death orders given by fate itself. Slowly, he begins to realize there is more to his dangerous associates than meets the eye.

Wanted: Weapons of Fate then starts after the events of the film where Wes continues his transformation into a full-fledged assassin and heir to a legacy of a secret fraternity of assassins. He continues his quest with a new mission to seek out the French chapter of The Fraternity, hunt down The Immortal and finally discover the truth about his family. While the plot of the movie revolves around Wesley’s relationship with his father, the plot of the game will revolve around his relationship with his mother.

When playing the game you will first notice that the cut scenes are not up to the next-gen standards, though the graphics are quite nice the character movements seem stiff and some of the dialog are under done. This is another game that has fallen into the “looks too dull” category with you spending most of the game looking a different shades of brown. Putting those too things aside the game is visually appealing.

As for the game play, Wanted - Weapons of Fate Reminds me of a lot of Gears of War with it being a 3rd person shooter that focuses heavily on using the surrounding environment to provide cover, it even has blood splatter on the screen and the heath re-generation system is the same. With Gears of War the main focus was the chain saw gun and with Wanted it’s the curving bullets and time lapse. To curve a bullet you have to build up adrenaline by killing a few enemies then by simply pressing a button you can then lock onto a target that is hiding in cover then change the trajectory to get a clean shot. Most of the time you will just wound them which will have them stumbling out of cover where you can then finish them off while in some cases you will get a nice slow motion cinematic of the camera following the bullet and then killing the target or even targets. Curving bullets is a interesting feature and would probably be one of the main reasons the you bought the game. This feature can get to feel a little mundane since there is no learning curve. Time lapse is another feature like the curving bullets how you can slow down time a take out your targets while running for cover. Also if you can get close enough to the enemies you can rush them then use the melee attack which the shows a different finishing move. This only has four different cinematic so the thrill of rushing the enemy to use these attacks will be short lived.

Wanted Weapons of Fate

Getting through the game is quite easy and can be completed in only a few hours though if playing it on the Xbox 360 the hunt for achievements will add to the  length of the game. This is mostly due to the to the simple story but also because the AI isn’t very smart since all they ever seem to do is just shoot a couple of times then duck for cover.

If you liked the movie then you might enjoy the game to some extent though this would not be one to buy for the collection so if you rent it or borrow it of someone who has already bought it since by now its already collecting dust

The Good

  • Good Graphics
  • Slow Motion Kill shots

The Bad

  • Game too short
  • Too easy (Even on the hardest setting)
  • Cinematic dialogs have curse words just for the sake of swearing
  • Questionable cut-scenes

Overall Rating: 6/10
